ABOUT EVERYSECONDWelcome and thanks for visiting everysecond, a collection of past and present photographic projects and a few other bits and pieces too.
I live on the South Coast of England and amongst other things I like to take pictures, like many I fit my passion for photography around a busy job. I hesitate to call myself a photographer because I am relatively new to this in any serious capacity and striving to develop my technical skills and a style of my own.
There are so many talented photographers out there now, just look at flickr, and it seems so difficult to do something unique, so I have set this site up for enjoyment rather than as a serious portfolio. Out of preference I like to shoot scenes from everyday life without too much post-editing because these images are genuinely individual and focus the mind on taking the picture right first time, but generally I will shoot anything that presents itself as an interesting subject and that helps me to learn. My photography is driven through getting out into the West Sussex countryside, the wonderful vistas of London, family and friends who don't mind me waving a lens in their face and occasional travel. I have also photographed two weddings (fairly successfully!).
I have been completely captivated by the revolution in digital cameras and the accessibility of the digital image. The combination of technology and art is certainly a fascinating mix. It has taken a while to sort out equipment that I am really happy with and I have been surprised at the huge disparity in performance, particularly from lenses. I eventually settled on a Canon system but it was a close run thing with Nikon. I have to say the decision making process with camera gear has been greatly helped by websites such as Fred Miranda and Steve's Digicams to mention just a couple, the right equipment is only a small part of making good pictures but it certainly helps.
I enjoy reading other people's photoblogs from around the world and it has been an ambition to try and log my own photographic journey rather than just letting life pass by so I have started everysecond. Initially, rather than use blogging software I wanted to learn a how to write a web page from the ground up, I did think this was beyond me until I read this great book 'Head First HTML with CSS and XHTML' by Elisabeth & Eric Freeman, I have now started to make sense of building a basic website using just a text editor, hence the ongoing ES project that has filled the dark winter evenings! Well there is a picture waiting to be taken, thanks for looking and please don't hesitate to drop me a line.
